Mark Farrington is Portfolio Manager and Head of the Macro Currency Group (MCG), which manages $2 billion in Global Macro Currency Funds. MCG is a global liquid alternatives specialist, managing large institutional mandates for government, pension and institutional clients. MCG is part of Principal Global Investors – a $400+ billion global asset management business owned by Principal Financial Group (PFG). The Funds investment style is Global Macro, with an emphasis on Global Regime and Early Warning indicators: both financial market and geopolitical.
Mark has been a portfolio manager for PGI (formerly BT Funds Management) for 26 years, starting with Bankers Trust Japan in 1992, followed by Bankers Trust Singapore and BT Funds Management in Sydney. Prior to starting his portfolio management career, Mark was a recognised financial market specialist on Japan, being one of the first Bank of Japan Watchers in the 1980s and creator of the first online, real-time financial market analytical services in English on Japan; called ‘The Yen Market Report’. During this ‘emerging market’ phase for Japan, he worked as a Market Strategist for Baring Securities Japan and as a BoJ Specialist for MMS International (S&P) in Tokyo from 1987 to 1992.
Mark is a member of the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), Chatham House, Henry Jackson Society and Advisor to the Board of Predata.
