Jonathan Mark Bensted

Jonathan is a Mechanical Engineer and Energy Entrepreneur specialising in hydropower engineering and renewable energy development. He founded Dragon Hydro in 2008 having worked on project search and selection, screening and analysing potential hydro projects in North Wales, and developed, constructed and now operates the Cadair hydropower project. Jonathan subsequently developed and constructed further alternative energy projects in Chile. As Project Director at Consorcio Santa Marta in Santiago, he was responsible for the development and construction of a 16MW waste to energy project, one of the largest to date in Latin America. After founding Chilean based project developer, Hydroventura Chile SpA, in partnership with a civil construction contractor, he most recently delivered a 6MW run of river hydropower plant for the Maule region. Jonathan's operating projects deliver c.150 GWh per year of non-intermittent renewable energy generation onto the UK and Chilean grids. Collectively, these projects continuously save 130 billion tons of CO2 from the atmosphere each year.

Jonathan holds a Master of Engineering Science degree from Wadham College, Oxford University and furthered his studies into electrical market regulation at the Universidad de Chile.
